Bio
Dr. Hector Ortiz is the President of H & R Communications & Consulting Services and serves as Communications Consultant for La Voz Latina Central, Bilingual Newspaper. Until January 2021, Hector served as Assistant Professor and Director of Graduate Programs at Central Penn College. Hector holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, a master’s degree in diplomacy, and a doctorate in international relations from Guayaquil State University. Hector also received an honorary-causes Doctorate Degree in public service from Central Penn College in 2011.
Hector Ortiz is a charter member of the Rotary Club of Harrisburg Keystone and has served as Club President, Assistant Governor, and District Governor of District 7390 (2013/2014). PDG Hector Ortiz is the first Latino to serve as District Governor for District 7390 and in Pennsylvania. Hector is a Paul Harris Fellow, a graduate and faculty member of the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) of Northeastern America, Inc., and faculty of the Mid-Atlantic President-Elect Training Seminar (MAPETS). Hector served as Executive Trainer of MAPETS from 2018 to 2019 and is serving as MAPETS General Chair for 2019-2023. Hector is also serving for 2021-2024 as RLI-NE Regional Vice-chair overseeing Districts 7390, 7410, and 7475.
Hector was selected as team leader of District 7390 Group Vocational Service Exchange (GVSE) to Australia, District 9640, in 2016. Hector has served as District Membership Chair from 2014 to 2017 and is serving as District Representative for District 7390 to the Council on Resolutions and Council on Legislation for the period 2017-2023. Hector has attended several District Conferences, Rotary Zone Institutes, and International Conventions.
Hector Ortiz serves and has served in several community organizations and boards such as the Board of Counselors of Rotary International, District 7390, the Board of Trustees of Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC), and in the Board of the National Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). Hector is well-known for his work in Rotary and The Rotary Foundation and is a promoter of the district and global grants.
Hector is a motivational speaker and a consultant in diversity, leadership development as well as communication, translation, and interpretation services. Hector has received the Leadership Excellence, Advanced Leader (ALB, ALS), the Advanced Communicator (ACB, ACS, ACG), and the Distinguished Toastmaster from TM International in 2018. Hector has served as Area Director (A12, 2017-2018), Division Director (Division-A, 2018-2019), and District Club Resource (2019-2020) of Toastmasters, D38.
Hector has attained many governments and community awards, such as the Rotary International Club Builder Award, 2016, and The Rotary Foundation District Service Award, 2009. Hector and his wife Marisol run a business, Roots of my Land Ecuadorian Family Restaurant in Harrisburg, PA. Hector and Marisol have four children: Cristhian, Bonnie, Jimmy, and Jacob. Hector is a public speaker and the author of “The Creative Energy of Positive Thinking: A Basic Approach to the Genuine Concept of Happiness.”
